The Plaza, which is the traffic circle located where Chapman Avenue and Glassell Street meet, is closed off to traffic, and the entire area becomes a Holiday block-party which culminates in a moving show that includes a tree lighting ceremony and candlelight procession.
The event starts at 3:30 p.m., where we invite the community to come and enjoy good cheer with their neighbors, photo opportunities with Santa, and activities which include crafts, carnival games, and a moon bounce. Food will be sold by local non-profit groups for a nominal fee which goes to support their works in the community.
The official program begins at 5:15 p.m. with the lighting of the tree and the musical sounds of a 350-voice choir and a 60-piece orchestra led by musical director Michael Short. It is about 90 minutes to two hours in length.
